Garden Planning: What We’re Planting This Year

Garden Planning - What We're Planting This Year! - Just Bee Blog

Can you believe it?? It’s time to start mapping out our 2016 summer garden! We can’t wait to grow all of this produce again. Last year’s garden brought with it a massive crop of butternut squash…and we like it so much, we’re planting it again! 🙂

Last year’s planting day 🙂

We’re hoping to sell some of our produce this year. But, either way, we’re thrilled about the variety we’ve chosen!

The long-awaited seed catalog came in the mail a couple weeks ago, so Bjorn and I sat down with the catalog and a notebook and figured out which seeds (and how much) we wanted to order. Now the seeds have arrived and I’m looking forward to winter ending! 🙂

Here’s what we’ll be planting, for you gardeners out there (or if you’re just plain curious!):

  • Waltham Butternut Squash — a big favorite!
  • Kentucky Wonder Bush Beans
  • Longfellow Cucumbers
  • Russian Pickling Cucumbers
  • Bouquet Dill
  • Carrots
  • Genovese Basil
  • Green Oakleaf Lettuce
  • Amish Melon (I couldn’t pass over an “Amish” label!)
  • Black Beauty Zucchini
  • Burgess Buttercup Squash
  • Summer Crookneck Squash
  • Watermelon
  • Bull Nose Bell Peppers
  • Yellow of Parma Onions
  • German Pink Tomatoes
  • Mexican Midget Tomatoes
  • Traveler Strain Jalapeños

Since I’m craving warmer weather and wishing it was springtime already, let’s reminisce and look back through a few pictures from last year’s garden, shall we? 🙂

Beans from last year – beautiful, but we opted to go with a different, hopefully less stringy variety this year 🙂

All the heart-eyes for these vines at sunset. So perfect!

I love watching him love on the plants 🙂 Everything he touches thrives! – I just plain try to keep things alive!

Are you planting a garden this year? I’d love to hear what you’re growing! 🙂

  1. This post is so cute and you’ve totally inspired me to post what we are planting this year as well! I love your barn and the nice large area you have for planting!! I grew up in the country and definitely miss it, but until we figure that out we are living in the burbs and have been box gardening everywhere.

  2. I would love to start a garden someday! It looks like you have such great variety 🙂 Everything looks so yummy and so fresh (of course!). Can’t wait to see how it goes this year!

  3. So yummy! The house we’re hoping to buy has a big yard and I’m planning on starting a garden once we’re there! I’ll definitely be coming to you for advice! <3
