Valentine’s Weekend 2015
This 3-day-weekend (thanks to Presidents Day) has been amazing. It’s been a wonderful mix of relaxing downtime, happy productivity, and upbeat adventure. I got to spend so much time with those I love this weekend – what a truly great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day!
Friday evening was spent catching up with my precious best friend Jordan over manicures and coffee. It’s hard living such a distance from this soul-sister of mine; she blesses me immensely with her wisdom, wit, funny stories, and the same kinds of deep thoughts I think. So, of course, we chattered happily for hours before it was time to part. I love that girl! 🙂
Saturday was a full day! It started out with great time running errands with my mom. We always have the best talks – it was great to catch up some.
For my birthday in January, my parents “gave” me a day of skiing with the family, and we finally were able to fit it in this weekend! My dad’s an awesome skier (he grew up in MT) so we three kids were all taught well by him. Mom stayed in the chalet and Maddie wasn’t in town so it was just Dad, Tyler, and me. We still had a blast, though. I only get to ski about once a year but it’s kind of like riding a bike (with more terror, haha!). My victories: we went down multiple black diamonds that day and I didn’t fall! Or break anything!! 🙂 It was exhausting, suuuuper cold, but amazing.
Saturday after skiing, I finally got to see my husband!! Bjorn’s currently gone for 2 weeks of military training (I could write an entire post about pining for him but I’ll spare you) so it was so wonderful!! We got through 1 week apart before we had this special Valentine’s Day getaway weekend, and now we’ve got 1 week to go! (We lived apart for 6 weeks this fall so I know we can do it, I’m just kind of being a baby about it…)
First things first: put in the order for breakfast room service!! 🙂
We met up halfway, in Rochester, where we had a fancy supper and nice hotel reserved! We got dressed up, had a lovely Valentine’s Day supper together, and had a relaxing stay on the 10th floor of a downtown hotel! It was just what we needed. Our fancy meal was one of those where we just truly talked – not about who’s taking out the recycling, or the bills in the mail, or laundry, or dishes, or work. We just plain chatted like the soul mates we are. We were on a true date, separated from our hectic busy normal lives, like we were plucked up out of the muck and placed in a happy little world for the two of us. The walk down the block to our hotel was freezing, but it was totally worth it. 🙂
We had to part ways on Sunday late afternoon but had a nice lunch and spent time talking at Panera before leaving. I spent the rest of the day at home unpacking, doing laundry, etc. and today has been much the same. It’s back to cleaning, baking, meal prepping, and laundry – real life again.
It’s always hard to say goodbye to beautiful weekends like this, but it was really the break we both needed. Now our goal is to hang on to good memories like this when we jump back into the stress and busyness of everyday life!
I hope you all had a relaxing weekend, too! How did you celebrate Valentine’s Day this year?
My husband and I will be apart from April to August this year, please share all your tips for surviving! Looks like the perfect weekend 🙂
🙂 Kristin, you can do it!! I’m totally not an expert on it, but mostly I make myself busy! I stay busy with work, and I also use the extra time to accomplish little projects around the house that I’d been putting off! 🙂 Good luck! You guys will do great! It’ll go by fast. 🙂
What a fun weekend!
It was! Thanks, Chelsea! Hope you and your husband had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! 🙂
What a wonderful weekend! I have always longed to go skiing. Perhaps someday soon. 🙂 Found you through Oak and Oats {I am a sponsor too!}, and i have loved perusing your blog.
🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Bethany! It’s so fun that you’re sponsoring Oak and Oats too! I love that blog so much 🙂 and yes, you’ll definitely have to try skiing…although maybe not on a super freezing cold day!! Skiing is probably more fun when you don’t have to wear face masks 😉
