Sophie’s Dedication

| |

Hi friends! I’m sorry I disappeared from the blog for a little while there! Last week, my computer’s charger died (it was literally getting smoky!) and I’ve been waiting for the new charger I ordered to arrive! So, here we are! It’s nice to be back. 🙂

This past Sunday was a special day for us! We dedicated Sophie to the Lord during church in the morning, and then spent the rest of the day celebrating with family, food, and baby snuggles!

Bjorn and I wanted to thank those who took the time and effort to come to Sophie’s dedication, so we invited everyone over for a meal after church! I love doing things like this! We had pasta salads, sandwiches, fruit & veggies, iced tea, lemon water, and yummy desserts. There were 16 family members besides us who came to the dedication service. It’s always fun to get together with family, and this was such a good reason to celebrate!

In case you haven’t heard about dedications before and you’re curious, this dedication service was our way of publicly announcing our intent to raise Sophie in such a way that she learns about and comes to know Jesus.

(Sophie’s godmother is Bjorn’s sister, Signe!)

Bjorn and I both believe strongly in a Christian upbringing for our daughter, since our faith in Christ is what means the most to us in life…and, it is the kind of thing that fills you with such joy and purpose (and gratitude for what our Savior did) that you just want to share! We also know that it will ultimately be Sophie’s decision to follow Christ someday, which is our greatest hope for her. So, having a dedication service at church was a special way to announce our desire for how we will raise her, have her receive a special prayer and blessing from our pastor, and share in the joy of a precious new life to lovingly raise and shepherd!

Sophie girl, our prayer is that you come to have a personal relationship with Jesus someday. As deeply as we love you, he loves you more than any human could. He made you, he died for you, and he wants you to run to him! In the meantime, we promise to lovingly raise you and guide you to know your God!

Bjorn and I chose a special Bible verse for Sophie, and read it out loud during the church service. This verse is full of such promise, and beautifully shows God’s character!

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

– Isaiah 58:11

** All the photos in this post (except for the ones of Sophie in her dress) were taken by others! Thank you to all of the relatives who snapped photos on this special occasion! 🙂
