Sophie’s 18 Month Update
It’s been a couple months since the last Sophie update, so I’m excited to share one today! Our sweet girl is a year and a half today! Can you believe it? Every day, she’s acting less and less like a baby and more like a little kid! (It makes me savor those pre-nap cuddle sessions extra these days.)
Her most recent updates, if you’d like to catch up: 12 Month Update and 16 Month Update š

Here’s what Solveig’s been up to lately:
Sophie’s 18 Month Update:
Nicknames:Ā BeeBee, Missy Lucy (no idea where I got that one), BeeBee Bonnet (still no idea, haha), Bunny, and more! And I guess technically Sophie, since her full name is Solveig. š

Size: About a month ago, Sophie weighed 21 lbs. 3 oz. She wears a whole mix of clothing sizes right now, but mostly items between 18 months and 24 months. (She has long arms like her mom and dad!) I’ve begun to shop ahead on Kidizen (click here for my referral code to get $5 for free!) and I’m filling a big bin with size 2T clothes for next fall (or potentially this summer). Sophie’s never been a super chunky baby, and she’s really stretched out over time because of all of her running around! š She’s always on the go! I can’t remember how tall she was most recently, but back in February, she was 31 inches tall.
Sleep: I’m so, so grateful for how well she sleeps! Sophie goes down before 8 pm each night and usually wakes between 7:30 and 8 am! And we usually don’t see each other between those times. š She still has the occasional rougher night, with teething, a bad dream, or if she wants her pacifier but can’t find it in the dark. But overall, she’s sleeping 12-13 hours a night and we’re so proud! She’s very aware of when she needs a nap, so she’ll run to the bottom of the stairs and make the sign for “sleep” and say “Rest!” š Sophie is down to one nap per day. We usually eat lunch around 11:30 and she’s down for her nap by 12:30. Her afternoon nap varies a bit. I kind of wish she napped 3 hours like some do…but then again, I’d much rather she sleeps so well at night like she does! š Her afternoon naps are usually around 2 hours long, sometimes 2.5 hours. She sleeps in a sleep sack and has two favorite toys that rest with her: her giraffe Wubbanub named Joshua Giraffe (after the Raffi song), and a pink bear attached to a little blanket, named Pink Bear. š Sophie always looks around when it’s time to rest, and calls out “DOSH!” for Josh, and attempts to call for “Pink Bear!” too. It’s so darling! (Side note: we’ll wean off the pacifier eventually and Josh may get plastic surgery so he can stay her friend, minus the paci…but I’m not in a huge hurry to wean her off of it at the moment.)
Fun milestones: There are so, so many going on, it’s going to be hard to list them all. Sophie is officially a walk-and-run-everywhere toddler now. She recently mastered climbing up onto the couch on her own. She loves to dance and twirl and do “downward dog.” š She loves coloring with crayons, playing with stickers, doing puzzles, acting things out with her stuffed animals, and so on. She’ll rock baby dolls and say “Shh, shh..” to them.
Her language development is so much fun to watch!! She likes to say “Mama” and “Mom!” and “Daddy,” which comes out more like “Da-ee!” (So, so cute. We’ll miss it when she doesn’t say “Da-ee” anymore!) She can count with you to “two,” and even has attempted to say “three” and “four.” She knows tons of nouns, animal sounds, names of various foods…

We’ve been playing outside a lot more now that the weather is nicer, and Sophie’s navigating our bumpy yard quite well! She loves her rain boots and will explore outside for forever if you let her! (Her favorite thing to do is listen for and mimic birds, and collect lots of little rocks in her hands.)
Her favorite foods at the moment are mac ‘n’ cheese, mixed veggies (peas/corn/carrots/green beans), black beans, any kind of cheese, bananas, peanut butter, pears, and any kind of crackers or cookies!

When Bjorn comes home from work, he and Sophie share a Cutie clementine while sitting on the couch and “talking about their day.” <3 It’s the sweetest little daily daddy-daughter date. As soon as Daddy walks in the door, Sophie runs around and leads him to the fridge, exclaiming “Orange! Orange! Orange!” š

I’m sure I’m missing some great milestones, but she sure is a happy, busy little girl!
I’ve been taking her to a toddler music class almost every week and it makes her day!! We have their curriculum’s CD at home, too, so Sophie knows the songs and loves acting out the motions. (One of her very favorites is “Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, Turn Around..”) She’s really into music and it can even help us reset our day if she’s feeling frustrated. She loves doing the actions for the song “Running Over,” too!
It’s been such a joy doing daily life with this precious little soul! She is an amazing gift and Bjorn and I still can’t believe she’s ours. It’s really hard to believe she’s a year and a half already – although in some ways, we feel like she’s always been with us! She’s the sweetest little girl and we can’t wait to see how God will use her in the future!
