Simplifying Your Wardrobe with ThredUp’s Closet Clean-Out Bag

| |

Is it just me, or is the spring cleaning bug totally an early fall thing, too? In the past few years, I’ve found myself more eager to do house purging and organizational tasks during the late summer months (as opposed to the spring months here in Minnesota). We had a garage sale this summer, and setting up for that motivated me even more to get rid of unnecessary items we had hanging around the house.

But I didn’t sell clothing at our garage sale…because I had an even better option in mind! And it’s such a cool idea that I’m eager to share it with you today! So, if you’re like me and you’re looking to purge items in your closet AND refresh your wardrobe, then today’s post is definitely for you!

As always, I only share products and brands on this blog that I personally love! Thanks for supporting the brands that keep Just Bee up and running. 🙂

I’ll be the first to admit it; I’m NOT a fan of the state of our master closet! (Insert eye roll here…) I’m working on a better storage solution for Bjorn’s and my clothing. It’s a tiny closet anyway, but putting the majority of two people’s clothing in it has really maxed out the space in there, making it difficult to find things somedays. 🙁 I love the over-100-year-old house that we live in, but it has very poor storage (only a couple closets total), so that makes things hard, too! I’m convinced that everyone has their “thing” that they’re great at cleaning or organizing (for me, I love wiping down our kitchen and cleaning our bathroom), and then the task that they really dislike. Clothing organization is not my forte. Anyone else like me?

This should be obvious, but it took me a while (whoops!) to realize that we struggle with our clothing storage situation partly because we have too much. That’s the truth! I’ve never been great at having a really small capsule wardrobe…even though, if you think about it, a lot of the time we ALL just wear our few favorite outfits anyway! It’s almost like I already function with a capsule wardrobe (of favorite items), but I’ve still been living with so much extra.

So, what do we do with extra clothes? Especially those nice items that we purchased and had high hopes for but never really reached for? Do we keep them forever, letting them add to the clutter?

How about selling them? What if I told you that you could sell clothes in a super low-maintenance way? 🙂

As in: you ship the clothes off, and someone else goes to the more detail-oriented work of selling them? Neat!

Simplifying Your Wardrobe with ThredUp’s Closet Clean-Out Bag

I first heard about ThredUp’s Closet Clean-Out Bag a while back, but I didn’t jump in and utilize it until recently. (And now I’m wondering why it took me so long to purge my closet and use the Clean-Out Bag!)

Here’s how it works:

  • Head to ThredUp’s Closet Clean-Out page on their website.
  • Scroll down and click “Order a Free Kit.” The large Clean-Out Bag will be mailed to you!
  • Fill the bag with excellent condition women’s and kids’ clothing, handbags, shoes, fashion jewelry, and accessories. (They’re looking for items that are less than 5 years old, on trend, and are from more well-known brands. That’ll increase the likelihood of your items being accepted and sold!)
  • Send off your bag! (It’s got a pre-paid shipping label.) Leave your bag for your mail carrier or drop it off at any FedEx Office or USPS location.
  • Feel instantly better! 🙂 You’ll breathe a sigh of relief and your closet will look so much better!
  • Get paid! You can choose from the following: ThredUp shopping credit, VISA Prepaid Card, or cash on PayPal. If you get paid via ThredUp shopping credit, then you’ll have the chance to refresh your wardrobe with pieces you will truly use…at a deep discount! I love that ThredUp has so many of the brands I love!

** The other option besides getting paid for your clothing that sells is to donate your Clean-Out Bag to charity! This is a great way to turn your clothes into cash for charities. If you select the “Donate” option, instead of a payout, ThredUp will donate $5 to a charity of your choice and you’ll get a donation tax receipt.

^^ All of my old clothes, bagged up and ready to ship off! And my little helper, of course! ^^

I love this quote from the New Minimalism co-founders, Cary Fortin and Kyle Quilici: “ThredUp empowers women to let go of garments they no longer need or love, helping them to create more spacious and functional closets.” That’s exactly it! I love the mission behind ThredUp. If we’re not using the clothing that’s living in our closets, then it should be passed on to be sold or even donated!

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to get the ball rolling on clothing organization. Your closet will thank you! Head over to ThredUp and request your Closet Clean-Out Bag today!
