Sever’s Corn Maze
Happy Sunday!! Guess what?? Our {TAKE ME TO} travel series is back!! For those of you who are new to Just Bee, {TAKE ME TO} is a series we started on the blog this summer featuring excursions and weekend travels from our time in Virginia!
As much as we love the beautiful state of Virginia, there’s something special about being back in Minnesota. And now that we’re back in our great home state, we realized that by no means should we give up on sightseeing and adventuring! I’m all for being a tourist in your own town. 😉
That brings me to… Sever’s Corn Maze in Shakopee, MN!
I grew up going to this corn maze. Birthday parties, junior high events, you name it. Yesterday’s weather was beautiful – one of those blustery days with an almost-too-bright sun – so we decided we just had to drive up for this autumn adventure!
Sever’s is fun for anyone, but most of all, it’s such a family-friendly place! There were joyful kids and parents with strollers everywhere! We don’t yet have kiddos of our own, but we certainly can see ourselves bringing little ones back to Sever’s someday.
Of course, since it’s a corn maze, the focus of the place is a huge maze in a corn field! Every year, they go with a different theme and maze design. This year was all about trains so the maze had been designed in the shape of a giant engine! I’ve been to Sever’s in the past when the maze was the outline of the United States – I love how intricately and creatively they design the maze each year.

Once inside the maze (with our map!), we had to walk around and find 26 signs. Each sign had a letter of the alphabet on it and we could only answer a special code if we visited each sign to search for a special picture on it. That “detective factor” adds a whole new level of fun – and motivation to visit each sign in the maze, not just a couple!
I have to say that this year, Bjorn did most of the work. I only got us lost once, though! 😉
Sever’s Corn Maze isn’t just a maze. It’s an entire fall festival, so there’s a tent for magic shows, camel and pony rides, and concession stands with hot cider, burgers, mini donuts, etc. The giant corn pit is always a hit – if you decide to jump around in it, you’ll find corn kernels in your sweatshirt pockets for a week! 🙂 Bjorn and I liked wandering around the exotic animal tent, too – they’ve got exciting things like parrots, South American deer, a zebra-donkey cross, a baby camel, and alpacas! …Oh wait – alpacas aren’t that exotic. We own three. 😉
It was a beautiful day to spend outside, even though it was super windy! The sunshine and happy families only added to the fun of the day. Minnesotans sure do know how to rejoice in good weather (and corn!) so it was fun to be around hundreds of people enjoying a weekend in autumn: “the year’s last, loveliest smile.”
Enjoy your last weekend of October, friends! 🙂
