Saturday Morning Rituals For a More Satisfying Weekend
Hey friend! Are you a mom? Are you hoping to create a household full of peaceful productivity? Then make sure you get on the waitlist for upcoming exclusive motherhood content! I can’t wait to dive into even more tips with you in the future!
I. Love. Weekends.
But don’t we all? 🙂 For some of you, the weekend means you get to spend time visiting friends or family you don’t get to see often. For some of you, weekends mean your husband is home with you and the kids, something you look forward to all week long! Some of you relish weekends for their busyness and for the activities and outings you get to pack into your schedule. And some of you probably savor those slooooow lazy mornings and quiet evenings (I fall into the latter category more times than not!)
Regardless, I think we can all just agree that weekends are wonderful.
One of the most common conversations I hear every Monday morning at work is: “How was your weekend?” “Oh, fine – it just went way too fast. I didn’t get as much done as I was hoping.”
Some weekends are just plain crazy. Or hectic, or over-scheduled, or…you name it. But much of the time, weekends just seem to slip away, bringing Monday here before we realize it!
I’ve begun to implement some habits in this season of our life that have really helped our weekends to feel more satisfying! Here’s what has been working well for us (and hopefully will for you, too!).
** Note: this post was written before we had our daughter Sophie! I still abide by a lot of these tips, but they may come at other times of the week if need be. 🙂 For more updated glimpses at our life with a little one, see posts like Our Daily Routine With a 15 Month Old. Saturday Morning Rituals For a More Satisfying Weekend:
1 // Address dishes and laundry right away. As soon as I wake on Saturdays, I throw a load of laundry in the washer, and I make sure any dry dishes are put away. This gets the day “rolling” even if I’m still feeling groggy. The washer is kicking off the momentum for the day, and the kitchen is a clean slate, ready for whatever the day brings!
2 // Write out a physical list. This goes for a (feasible) weekend to-do list, especially, but I’ve found on busier weekends, it also helps to write out a physical schedule of various events or obligations that weekend! Some days, I even sketch out what meals I have planned, especially if my mom is visiting for the weekend or something like that. A list laying on the kitchen table (or in a main traffic area) will serve as a good reminder to check up on the schedule throughout the weekend…and hopefully it’ll ensure that you don’t miss an event!
3 // Get yourself ready for the day. This can go a couple directions, but the focus is on gaining that momentum for your weekend. Usually, I like to at least shower for the day so I feel a bit more prepared for any errands or things that may happen! 🙂 But the other way you can “get ready” for the day is to actually get your hair up and your less classy weekend “cleaning clothes” on and ready! That way, you’re all set to get to work on cleaning or other projects around the house. Once I feel more prepared for the day, I don’t want to simply sit around, so this helps with the psychology behind productivity! 😉
4 // Attack the errands or least-desirable chores right away! Get the worst done first. I personally love cleaning in the morning, perhaps after I answer a couple emails, because then the icky stuff has been taken care of and the house is all set for a fun weekend (whether it’s relaxing or having people over!).
I also try to do any grocery list writing and grocery shopping BEFORE the weekend begins, so that if I’m doing any meal prep, I don’t have to “waste” time driving to town and doing the actual shopping! I’m just all set to prep or cook!
5 // Follow some of your weekday morning routines. I start every weekday morning with breakfast, of course, but also with my favorite Teavana tea. So, on Saturday mornings, I love to start my day the same way! It subconsciously helps me tell myself that it’s get-up-and-go time!
What rituals do you like to follow on Saturday mornings that help get your weekend off on the right foot?
My hope is that these rituals will help you have a more streamlined weekend so that you can focus on the things (and people) that really matter to you! Have a WONDERFUL, satisfying weekend, friends!

I like the way you wrote this. Simple and sweet! Great suggestions. The order is definitely how I would like to change mine to.
I love this list – a lot of this is what we do Saturday mornings. 🙂
