This is a re-post and a tweak of something I published almost 2 years ago. It’s definitely the perfect season for a rustic pear galette! Enjoy!

Well, friends, I think I’ve found my new “thing!” Each season I feel like I get into a new hobby, project, cooking genre…what’s the current obsession??

Galettes.

Have you heard of them before? Pinterest is full of tarts, pastries, and the like. But galettes are my new joy. Even the name is lovely!! πŸ™‚

Today I’m sharing a recipe I developed with a bit of experimenting. I brought this Rustic Spiced Pear Galette to our Olson Christmas celebration a couple years ago and it was a hit! My husband and I are excited to make it again! πŸ™‚ A little background on galettes before we jump in:

“Today, the term galette is used primarily to refer to rather rustic, free-form tarts made with a single crust of pastry or bread dough, like a pizza. If the filling is very moist, the sides of a galette may be folded up and over to contain the juices. Alternatively, the edges may be simply crimped and left rather flat. Italian cooks use the term crostata in place of galette.”

Flour (for light dusting)
1 9-inch refrigerated pie crust (or make your own)
4 Bosc pears (these are the brownish, rustic-looking pears), peeled and sliced
1 Tablespoon cornstarch
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1 Tablespoon heavy whipping cream (or melted butter)

What to Do:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Dust your hands and parchment paper with flour. Roll out the pie crust on the parchment paper until flat.

There you have it! This galette is super easy to make, beautifully rustic-looking, and a fun twist on a traditional pie concept. It’s absolutely delicious – almost like apple pie! It tastes great warm from the oven or kept cold in the fridge. You’ll definitely get some compliments if you bring this one to a party. Or hey, you can just sit and eat it all at home, like I’m considering doing in the near future. πŸ˜‰

Have you made galettes before? I’d love to hear how this turns out for you!!
