A Relaxing Day in Albert, France
We loved our couple days in Albert, France! The guys got to explore historic sites and museums in The Somme area, and on our full day in Albert, my sis-in-law Signe and I decided to spend the day just exploring the town of Albert ourselves.
^^ The front door of our cute Airbnb! ^^
^^ the view outside into the square-type area ^^
Signe and I slept in till 9 and by 10 am, we left our cute Airbnb and began to wander. Actually, our first stop of the day was the nearby Boulagerie (bakery). Our Airbnb faced into a neat little open square area, and right across the square was this neighborhood bakery. We got an eclair and chocolate croissant for breakfast and had fun interacting with the sweet woman who worked there, even though she spoke no English. (We found this was often the case in France when we were outside of the larger cities – people were quite friendly but didn’t always speak English.)
We took our breakfast with us as we walked, enjoying a slower paced day together. ๐ Signe made an awesome decision in heading west through town because we ended up discovering a huge open air market with tons of clothing, produce, accessories, shoes, and more!
There were also a lot of shops inside stores along the streets, of course. We stopped by a cute cafe and got tea and a cappuccino. When we continued our shopping excursions, we picked up some cute things like jackets (the jean jacket I found is my new favorite item this season!) and scarves.
I loved how, in the middle of town, Albert still had set aside space for public gardens. The garden Signe and I discovered was gorgeous and peaceful – and they even kept several smaller animals there amongst little playgrounds, gardens, paths, and waterfalls! We even came across a bride and her photographer doing bridal portraits!
Signe and I stopped for lunch at a food stand – we enjoyed baguette sandwiches that, before being wrapped up, were loaded up with fries inside! It was a brilliant way to package up a meal plus fries! ๐
We also came across aย beautiful church in town and decided to peek inside! The door was open and when we entered, we saw (and heard!) musicians rehearsing for a wedding later that day! The musicians had bagpipes and their gorgeous melodies echoed loudly all throughout the church – and you could hear the tunes a little outside, too!
Later on that day, after more shopping, Signe and I unloaded some things back at our Airbnb and relaxed some before leaving again. This time, we headed east to the McDonalds for their free wifi. ๐ We also went grocery shopping at a local Super U so that the 4 of us had more breakfast food, fun French road trip snacks, and baguettes, of course!
These kinds of low key days are a nice way to vacation as well! ๐ Signe and I really enjoyed ourselves and felt refreshed after a day of leisurely exploring and sightseeing!
What’s your favorite kind of slower paced day when you’re out of town?
Looks like the perfect slower paced vacation day! I am in love with how they wrapped the sandwich and fries – that’s brilliant!
Yes! It is! I wonder why they don’t do that here in America! It seems so smart and an easy way to take food on the go! ๐ And these slow paced vacation days sure are a blessing!
