My New Favorite Amish Fiction Novel
I’m a bit unapologetic when it comes to my love for Amish fiction. 😉
The only time I was probably apologetic about it was when I packed one of these novels in one of my 2 bags for our Europe trip this summer (we didn’t check any luggage) and it weighed my bag down and I hardly had a chance to do any reading! 🙂
To be honest, a lot of Amish fiction feels similar to me, and it may not be the most deep, provocative literature I’ve studied (we didn’t study any Amish fiction in AP Literature & Composition in high school!) but I love it.
Here’s why.
It feels like a big, old hug from a familiar friend. It’s predictable for me. It’s cozy and warm, and hearkens to a simpler life. I love the snippets of Pennsylvania Dutch included throughout, since I took German in school and find it fun to puzzle through. I love the love stories – simple and wholesome and still deeply romantic.
And have I mentioned I love the simpler life?
For me, cozying up with an Amish fiction novel is the perfect, relaxing thing to do at the end of the day. I’m not into murder mysteries or something really intense when I read before bed. And I’m a creature of habit. I do own a lot of Amish books. 🙂
Review of The Angel Of Forest Hill by Cindy Woodsmall:
This particular story is a new favorite of mine because first, it takes place around Christmas time. You’ve got to love a good, heartwarming story set during Christmas, with snow falling and family festivities throughout the book.
Second, I love a good unrequited love story. In this novel, Rose marries a man who lost his wife and needs someone to care for his 3 children…but that’s all. She is more of a live-in nanny and housekeeper than anything, but over time, they develop feelings for each other, and a beautiful love story comes out of that.
I don’t want to give anything away, but I do recommend this book! It’s the perfect cozy little Amish romance to cuddle up with and read by the tree this year. 🙂
