Minneapolis Holiday Market

Last weekend, on a blustery, cold gray Sunday, we joined the crowds of hardy (brave? silly? chilly?) Minnesotans and ventured to the Minneapolis Holiday Market! We double-dated with my cute parents and although we couldn’t really feel our toes or our fingers after a while, it was worth spending the time outside. The mulled wine was warm, the people friendly, and the holiday cheer just plain contagious. The Holiday Market is new this year, so it was fun to check it out!

^^ beautiful Polish pottery! In retrospect, I probably should’ve picked up a few pieces! Each piece is hand-painted and unique! ^^

^^ we really enjoyed the Feuerzangenbowle – a mulled wine drink. it was fun asking the German stand-owners how to pronounce the drink over and over again, until we almost had it right! 😉 ^^

^^ the mandatory potato pancakes, which can be served with either applesauce or onions and sour cream! they were good but not as good as the ones Oma (my German great-grandma) used to make ^^

^^ a local dance studio was performing “The Nutcracker” in the gazebo! (there was a warming tent at the Holiday Market – you can see that behind the gazebo.) ^^

^^ traditional German spaetzle (a pasta dish) – so, so buttery and good! ^^

There used to be a Hollidazzle Parade in years past, which I grew up going to and LOVED. This Holiday Market is in place of the Hollidazzle, so naturally some people are a bit disappointed. I miss the parade, too! The Holiday Market wasn’t as large as we were expecting, but the shops and stands there had cute holiday gift products and delicious, authentic German food! All in all, it was a fun couple hours spent outside with family. And spending time soaking up holiday cheer is something we all love this time of year! 🙂

Have you been to a holiday market? What kinds of holiday events are in your area this time of year??

  1. I just visited the Christmas market in Toronto this past weekend. Looks very similar to the one in Minneapolis, but one thing they don’t have is the mugs for mulled wine. Instead you get a disposable cup 🙁

    1. Hi Mar! I’m sorry about the disposable cups instead of mugs 🙁 the mugs are a nice touch – I think they made people want to buy a hot drink more! I’ve never been to Canada before! It’s neat to hear about other holiday markets too! Thanks for reading~ 🙂

  2. Hi, Hannah. I’m also taking part in the giveaway with The Farmer’s Wife. I grew up in MN and just moved to Colorado last month, so we missed the holiday market. It looks very sweet. I grew up going to the hollidazzle and Dayton’s 8th floor display, so I was sad to see the parade stop, too. Hopefully this is the start of a fun new tradition.

    1. Hi DeNae! It’s so fun that you’re a fellow Minnesotan! There have been mixed reviews on the holiday market, mostly because it marks the end of the Hollidazzle – I grew up doing that and the Dayton’s display, just like you! We’ll see what new traditions become popular in the coming years. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my blog – and that giveaway sure was fun with The Farmer’s Wife, wasn’t it? 🙂
