Meet The Man Behind the Blog

|

I am really excited about today’s post! I’ve been considering doing a post like this for a while, and finally decided to jump in! I LOVE seeing “husband interviews” on other blogs. They’re kind of like a “home tour” post, in a way… When someone opens up a little more and lets you into their familiar world, you feel more like a friend and less like a passerby. You can picture their daily life more easily – their routines, their conversations, their quiet moments… And I want you to feel that way too, friend!

So, on a bright and sunny Saturday morning, my husband and I sat down at our dining room table – me, with my computer, and him, with his chain mail wire and pliers (yes, it’s his hobby! more on that later). 🙂 We joked around for a while and chatted about our weekend plans while the coffee maker grumbled in the background. Then these questions began to flow…and so did the fun answers!

While this obviously isn’t a complete picture of this handsome husband of mine, I hope it gives you a fun peek into who Bjorn is! 🙂

It's husband interview time! Can't wait for you to meet the handsome man behind the blog! - Just Bee Blog

An Interview With Bjorn – The Man Behind The Blog:

How did you and Hannah meet? And how did you start dating?

The first time I remember Hannah was when our two dorm rooms in college kind of buddied up together. And that had a lot to do with our friends Josh and Lauren dating, so we can kind of thank them as to why we’re together! But I remember sophomore year in Lissner [our dorm], we’d all hang out and that was cool, but Hannah was just a friend, I suppose. I knew her but that was it – there weren’t a lot of opportunities to get to know each other better when there were almost 20 people in a room hanging out. Apparently we did have a class together freshman year but I don’t remember that and I was too focused on getting an A in that class. So was Hannah, but she sat behind me and didn’t raise her hand much. So that’s how we met. 🙂

But we can blame the entire reason on why we started hanging out on ballet. And no, I was not a ballerina. Hannah had tried to get in an athletics course but the ballet course was full. Hannah emailed the prof and ended up getting in! Which worked great because unknowingly I had a class that got out at the same time. It was that awkward amount of time when you didn’t want to skip lunch and go back to the dorm. So that first day of classes, I grabbed my lunch and was planning on eating lunch alone when I saw Hannah eating lunch alone and reading. I decided to sit down and eat lunch with her. And that first time it was just eating lunch together, but over time it became a routine and we started to eat lunch together every Tuesday and Thursday. It really got good because I found out Hannah could have very intelligent conversations, and after a while we found out we were really good at talking to each other. When we’d start eating our lunch on those days, the dining center would be full and when we left, it’d be nearly empty!

We started dating because I grabbed her and kissed her on the porch junior year outside our [the guys’] house! It was about time, I think! We had liked each other for quite a while, and we were best friends. It’s a risk to kiss your best friend, but I figured why not risk it..like our best man later said at our wedding, in order to gain all you must risk all. So I risked all to gamble at making something more out of our relationship and it was worth it. 🙂

If you had an entire day open, how would you use your time?

Well, I had a free day yesterday, but with that free day I decided to plow a field for 8 hours, thus making it not a free day. I get bored really quickly and easily so I need to be moving from one thing to another – grab a book, grab my chain mail to work on…I like to work! I hate not working.

What are your hobbies?

I probably have more hobbies than any one human being should have! For instance, I farm (it’s not my main source of income currently), read about history – even though history is part of my profession [he’s a history teacher]. I like coin collecting, I like guns, I make medieval armor, and I’m thinking about getting a forge put together with Hannah’s brother. I do like watching shows on Netflix. I like apocalypse or negative utopia shows so if anyone has any great recommendations leave a comment! 🙂

Tell us about your heritage, since people may be wondering why your name is Bjorn.

I am 56 1/4 percent Norwegian, 31 1/4 Swedish, and 12.5 percent Prussian. I obviously love history and heritage so I had to find these out to the .25 percent!

What is one of your pet peeves?

I don’t know, people talking in the movie theater? Although I am one of the least pet-peeved people ever. I am really laid back.

How do you feel about…cleaning? Just checking. 🙂

I don’t like cleaning…it’s one of those things that just plain makes me incredibly sad. Hannah has identified this deep sorrow cleaning creates in me, so in her love for me, she cleans and does a great job. That being said, I try not to make huge messes.

What did you always want to be when you grew up?

A carpenter first, until I realized I couldn’t make anything..and then a soldier, and then a history teacher, around 10th grade or so. And now I’m a soldier and a history teacher.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I can wake up just fine. I can stay up and wake up early and it doesn’t matter to me. I can go either way and it doesn’t make a difference for me, I’m just fine. But I’ve never pulled an all-nighter, so if a night owl means staying up till 3 or 4, I don’t do that. There’s no reason to be cooked the next morning.

Are you a cat person or a dog person? What is your favorite kind of pet?

A fish person. I don’t have a dog or a cat but I have fish, so I’m assuming that makes me a fish person. And plants, if they count. I love my cacti. I have a whole table of them!

If you could have one cuisine the rest of your life, what would you pick?

American. Hamburgers, mashed potatoes, that type of stuff. I do like all kinds of food too. With American cuisine i can get into all sorts of food, like pizza, meatloaf, steak.

If you had your own blog, what would it be about?

History – it’s what I’m best at. I would just change my middle school history lessons into blog posts. Although I would love to have a podcast someday. My kids always tell me they’d like to record my lessons at school! I like survival stuff, so it could be about survival. But I can’t spell so no one would read my blog. 🙂

  1. This is so fun! How cute is your story of how you met? I love that it started out with lunch dates and gradually progressed from there (or not so gradually, according to that first kiss story!!). Loved getting this glimpse into you and your hubby’s lives together. Beautiful!

    1. Thank you for your kind words, Lauren!! Yes – our story is a bit unconventional, well, especially with the first kiss! But it’s ours and that makes it super special. Thanks for reading along and I’m so glad you liked this little glimpse into our relationship!

  2. Thanks, Allie! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Bjorn actually didn’t use Ancestry.com – he just chatted with his grandparents and the math was easier for him since a few of them are 100%-one-certain-heritage! 🙂 So fun!
