How I Built Sophie’s Fall Wardrobe

|

One of the very first things I bought for Sophie was a pair of cute little baby boots, back when I was about 7 or 8 months pregnant. The boots looked tiny to me back then…and then our little girl was born and I laughed at how big the boots would be on her! Fast-forward till now…and my nearly 11-month-old baby girl is just now able to fit into them!

It’s funny how sizes seem all over the place until you’re holding your own baby in your arms. But what makes shopping for your baby so special is all of the daydreaming that surrounds the process! You pick out footed pajamas and daydream about snuggling by the Christmas tree. You select cute little boots and imagine them tromping around the apple orchard with you. You get a soft blanket and picture your little one cuddling close while you sing to them or read them a story.

I think fall brings with it all of these deep feelings of anticipation – it’s a fresh new start, right in the middle of the year! The weather will soon change here in Minnesota, and we’ll find ourselves all bundled up in layers, ready (kind of) to meet the crisp fall days head-on.

I’ve been daydreaming a lot over here. It’s hard as a new parent to truly envision what the next season will look like with your little one, especially since you’ve never done it before! But I’ve been looking forward to fall this year because it’ll mark Sophie’s first birthday! The day before she was born, we spent time with family at a local apple orchard. I’ve been excitedly planning to bring her this year ever since!

A huge thank-you to Kidizen for sponsoring today’s post. As always, I only share brands with you that I actually use and love, and Kidizen is no exception. I can’t rave enough about Kidizen!

I’ve had a ton of fun planning out Sophie’s fall and winter wardrobe this year. Last year, it was more about using gifts of clothing from people (thank you!!) and making sure our newborn was safe and warm to cuddle all winter. This year, little miss Sophie is on the GO! ๐Ÿ˜‰ We have fun outings in mind for this season, and Sophie won’t be living in footed pajamas 100% of the time. Thus, I’ve been happily planning some versatile fall outfits for our soon-to-be 1-year-old!

I was determined to be truly intentional about Sophie’s fall and winter wardrobe this year. Just like many moms, I can easily get caught up in the “Ooh, that’s cute! Let’s get that!” mentality when it comes to adorable baby clothes. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Instead of randomly collecting pieces for Sophie this fall, I wanted to actuallyย plan out her fall wardrobe. I literally sat down with a notebook, looked up various baby wardrobe suggestions online, and sketched out a list of what she has and what would be nice to have during this next cooler season.

** NOTE: Today’s post is titled as Sophie’s FALL wardrobe, but I want to note that these clothes should carry her well into winter. I anticipate adding a couple more footed sleepers or other warm basics if need be, size-wise, but other than that, I tried to plan ahead well enough that I won’t be doing a complete wardrobe overhaul after fall is over.

Right now (early September), Sophie is wearing size 12 month clothing, with a few 9 month pieces mixed in (and a pair of 6 month leggings aka cropped pants when laundry wasn’t done, haha). So, since she’s mostly in 12 month clothes now, I primarily purchased size 12-18 months for this next season. She’ll even be out of that 18 month size before I know it, so I’m glad I sized up a bit! Sophie’s a little peanut, but in my opinion she’s got her mama’s long torso and legs! ๐Ÿ™‚

I wanted to share with you a list of Sophie’s fall/winter wardrobe pieces, and then I’ll show you a couple of the fall outfits I had her try on! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sophie’s Fall/Winter 1-Year-Old Wardrobe:

This is a very comprehensive list. I’m actually surprised at how lengthy it looks…but FYI, I did list things that she already owns among the new items.

When I was shopping on Kidizen for the items on my list, I kept a certain general color scheme in mind. Mostly, I wanted pieces that we could mix and match to create numerous outfits all season long. Additionally, I thought about what Sophie already had and what colors I felt complemented her best (although, let’s be honest, babies look cute in all colors!). A lot of her cute fall outfits are things I’d love to wear myself! Pieces like black leggings, jeans, a plaid top, tan pants, and casual dresses are all great staples to have!

Tops:

  • 4 short-sleeve onesies
  • 4 long-sleeve onesies
  • 2 cardigans
  • ~3 casual dresses
  • ~2 dressy dresses (I haven’t purchased her Christmas dress yet, for example, but I have some good options for things like Sunday church or Thanksgiving)
  • 3 rompers (left over from summer)
  • 1 puffy vest
  • 3 nicer shirts (1 plaid top, 1 olive green top, 1 plain white top)
  • Footed sleepers
  • 1 cute “impractical outfit” (I chose a black/white buffalo plaid romper with matching bonnet!)
  • 4 warm, fuzzy jackets/sweatshirts (a couple of these are left over from summer: we have a new fuzzy cream one, too)

Bottoms:ย

  • 1 pair of jeans
  • 1 pair of jean leggings (softer, stretchier material)
  • 1 pair of black leggings
  • 3 pairs of tights (in basic colors)
  • 4 pairs of play leggings (for her fun leggings, she has pink ones, polka dot ones, dinosaur leggings, and gray leggings)
  • 2 pairs of shorts (left over from summer)
  • 1 pair of tan skinny pants (hers have zippers down at the ankle)

Accessories:

  • Headbands/bows (to match basic colors of wardrobe; plus a couple with patterns)
  • 1 sun hat (left over from summer)
  • 1 pair of dressy shoes (sparkly dark gray Mary Janes)
  • 1 pair of sandals (white faux Birkenstocks)
  • 3 pairs of boots (1 taupe pair, 1 dark brown pair, 1 pair of “duck boots”)
  • 1 pair of tennis shoes (soft-soled, left over from summer)
  • 2 Halo sleepsacks (what she currently wears while sleeping, with room to grow)
  • 2 warm fall hats (1 dark brown knit cap, and 1 fuzzy cream hat with chin tie)

Where I Shop:

KIDIZEN. Seriously. If you haven’t heard of Kidizen yet (or if you have, but you haven’t tried it out), run to your App Store and download the free app! It’s life-changing.

With this app, you can easily buy (and sell) new or gently used kids’ clothing, among other things. I use it most for clothing. I get the huge majority of Sophie’s clothing (like 95%) from other moms via Kidizen. I love how shipping is usually included in the already-low prices, and it’s very user-friendly!

Using Kidizen to build Sophie’s fall/winter wardrobe saved me a ton of money. I remember walking through a mall with a friend and we found a baby shirt for something like $48!!! Unbelievable! So if you’re looking to save money while still picking up cute outfits (slightly used or even new!), then the Kidizen app is a great option.

You can get a free $5 to spend by using my referral link HERE. ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy shopping (and saving)!

How do you plan out what your kids will wear each season? Have you tried Kidizen yet?
