Why You Should Incorporate Crockpot Freezer Meals Into Your Life

| |

Earlier this fall, my friend Jordan and I started chatting about crockpot freezer meals and how wonderful they sounded! I had made just a couple of them a year before and couldn’t really remember why I’d stopped. (To be honest, now I think I was CRAZY for stopping!) We started brainstorming dates and then picked a Saturday to get together and go crazy with the crockpot meal prep! It took a few hours, a Costco trip, and a lot of ingredients spread out on the table…but boy, did we accomplish a lot! It was exhilarating – because every little bit of work we did that afternoon was saving us supper prep time in the future! We each went home with 12 meals that day, eager to freeze the bags flat and have that perfect virtual “meal library” to select from! It was so much fun. 🙂

If you’re curious, we found our meal-making “session” on this site (she has 17 freezer meal prep sessions to pick from – Jordan and I picked the Costco session!).

Those meals have been so great to have on hand! So great, in fact, that Bjorn and I spent time last weekend whipping up even more freezer meals!

Why?

Reasons to Incorporate Crockpot Freezer Meals Into Your Life:

1 // First of all, they have all been delicious! We all know how wonderfully tender meat gets after sitting in a crockpot all day.

2 // The house will smell amazing when you walk in the door at the end of the day.

3 // The obvious reason: it saves time! All Bjorn and I usually have to do in the morning is pour the meal in and add a couple cups of water to the crockpot. It just feels good to walk out the door in the morning knowing that a meal will be ready for us when we return.

I’m one of those people who, when they don’t eat often or eat enough, totally wilt. I get weak, dizzy, sad…it’s a struggle! So I am just thrilled to be avoiding moments of exhaustion and brain-fuzziness in front of the open fridge after a long work day!

4 // You can plan for nutrition instead of attempting to incorporate it on the spot! When Bjorn and I made more meals last weekend, we made choices to add extra amounts of certain nutritious ingredients. We wanted to think ahead even nutrition-wise because then when it is supper time, we won’t be standing in front of the stove, brainstorming ways to make a simple meal more healthy.

5 // The silly, organization-addict reason: you get to freeze all of these perfect gallon-size freezer bags flat, and then you can even store them vertically like a little library of meal options! It’s enough to make me giddy! 😉

    1. That’s what got me started on it! It was so nice to have one more thing off my plate when our little girl arrived.

  1. I so want to try to do this. At the end of every week I’m always surprised that I have to figure out what to feed us again, that we have to eat every day and I’m supposed to be the one responsible. hah. I LOVE my crockpot but only have a couple go-to recipes for it. Definitely going to check out your suggestions.

    1. Haha! That is so true, Shannon!! I’ve always been a bit shocked by the fact that we have to keep up a food supply in the fridge every week! 🙂 I’m glad this post brought you some ideas!

  2. You’ve got me thinking Hannah! This sounds like an awesome idea!
I would love to give it a try and at least do a few! I always seem to be running crazy low on freezer space though!

    1. I’m glad you got a bit of inspiration from this, Amy! Thanks! And yes, we don’t have a ton of freezer space either (and no chest freezer) but if we freeze the gallon-size bags carefully so they freeze flat, then they are much easier to store! You could always make perhaps 4 or 5 at a time for a busy week!
