Helping on the farm (or not)..
One of the topics I cover in this blog is my transition from a rush-hour-riddled, coffee shop-filled life in the suburbs to a quieter, small town life. I live in rural southern Minnesota now (because of a certain guy I fell in love with!) – you can read our love story here. I’ve always loved the idea of a rural life so I didn’t balk when the time came to move down here. The settling-in period has taken a little while, though – for example, part of me reallllly wishes right now I was writing this blog post in a quiet corner table at a Dunn Bros. with a chai tea to my left, music playing through the speakers, and the smell of coffee in the air. 🙂 But overall, I am so glad I get to live right here! – there is something so special about the rustic quality of life in and around farms!
Although Bjorn and I look forward to having a home outside of a town someday, for now we are living in a (tiny) town. At times we still help out at my in-laws’ farm, though, and we are surrounded by the rural MN landscape! I am in awe of how beautiful it is around here. Which brings me to today’s confession: I’m not that helpful on the farm. Even though I can now actually toss a hay bale over for the horses, I’m otherwise kind of bad at helping out with farm chores. Because I stop and take pictures. All. The. Time. 🙂
And I will probably never stop. Ever.
Also, I have a terrible fear of losing my iPhone to an ultra-dramatic “sploosh!” into the horses’ water. (It’s all about getting the perfect angle for a picture, folks!)
Bogey is not that amused. He would like his supper.
Happy Wednesday, friends! You’re officially over halfway through the week! May you never stop taking in life’s little moments – even if it means your husband feeds a dozen other animals while you feed only two. I’ll ask Bjorn for his opinion on this arrangement later. 😉
How do you take time to enjoy the little things in life? Do you find there are certain moments when you just HAVE to whip out your phone and take a snapshot? 🙂
These pictures are gorgeous! Totally worth the phone-risk!
🙂 Hehe, thanks Chelsea!! It’s so funny to think of all the precarious positions our iPhones are in each day!! Gotta get that perfect angle! 🙂
Oh how I would just love to live on a farm. The gorgeous field sunsets, the smell of the horse grain…I could go on and on. I grew up going to horse shows and being around my own horses myself. Getting back to that lifestyle would be an absolute dream. No need to work on farms, just take every second of it in 🙂
🙂 That’s a great plan, Lauren!! I never want to stop taking it all in! And it’d be a shame to start taking it for granted. Your background with horses sounds so awesome – they truly are majestic animals. I just love being around them! My best friend grew up riding horses and loved it!
