DIY 4-Ingredient Hot Cocoa Mix
With all of the freezing cold weather (and even snow days) we’ve been having around here lately, I’ve been absolutely relying on hot drinks! I leave for work each morning with a thermos full of tea (Republic of Tea is awesome), and I conclude my day with 1-2 more mugs of either chamomile tea or chai. 🙂
I’ve been buying a good amount of store bought hot cocoa mix recently…so I finally decided to start experimenting with a recipe of my own! This hot cocoa mix could be wonderful as a homemade gift for a friend during these winter months, as well!
How to Make Your Own Hot Chocolate Mix
Gather:
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 sugar
- 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
What to Do:
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together all ingredients. Spoon into a mason jar or other small container.
To prepare cocoa: combine ~3 Tablespoons with ~1 cup hot milk. Top with marshmallows or whipped cream. Enjoy!
What hot drinks do you rely on during the winter months? Have you ever made homemade hot chocolate?
Yum!! I never would have thought to add cornstarch — what a great way to get the hot chocolate nice and thick. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Yes! I’m so glad you liked this recipe idea! The cornstarch adds just enough thickness to make the cocoa seem a bit more velvety 🙂
