5 Things You Can Do Now To Avoid The Post-Holiday Slump

| | |

For many of us, the holidays are a time full of hearty meals, outings, family gatherings, and travel! Bjorn and I have had a packed schedule these past couple weeks – and it’s all been so fun! Times like these can fill us with an almost emotional high because of the constant hustle and bustle. But when January 2 rolls around…it leave us almost with a sense of letdown or disappointment.

Even though all the travel and gatherings can be tiring, it’s still such a change when it all ceases! Let’s combat that letdown feeling and avoid slumping into sadness or…non-productivity! 🙂

5 Things You Can Do Now To Avoid The Post-Holiday Slump:

1 // Stay thankful! Avoid the urge to become dissatisfied with your normal, everyday life, now that the holidays are over. Thank God for the special times you did have with friends and family – or even the special opportunities you had to relax! When we approach situations (and any transitions) in life with thankfulness, it can really alter our approach and attitude.

2 // Document and remember the sweet times you had. Whether you’re printing photos from family gatherings for your relatives, uploading pictures to Facebook, or just journaling, it is wonderful and important to cherish any sweet holiday memories!

3 // Make sure to make time to relax! One of the biggest mistakes I tend to make is going from a really busy break and jumping straight into a really busy routine. Being productive has always been important to me, but I’ve learned over time that I must relax and recharge after a crazy, social holiday season! I wrote more about savoring solitude here.

4 // Stay in touch! We love getting to see family members and friends over holiday breaks like this, since our normal routines and work schedules don’t always allow for that fun hangout time! But instead of just hugging goodbye and saying, “We’ll see you in a few months,” we should continue to chat with those we love and those we got to spend time with! That’s something I want to be even more intentional about!

5 // Make some goals! I love how New Year’s resolutions follow such a busy holiday season. Setting these goals brings additional productivity and a sense of purpose as we reenter our normal routines! It’s a reminder to us that, once again, we can take the reins and enjoy a fresh perspective on our lives and what we want to do! It’s all about having a healthy approach to productivity.

I actually created a New Year’s Goals Worksheet just for you! It’s a fun, uniquely categorized printable and you can download it for free HERE! 🙂

  1. Amen, girl! I actually was about to share a post like this some time this week, hope you don’t mind! 😉 The post-vacation blues are all too real, and despite the excitement of having a brand new year, we need to get through the day to day with a little more than that.

    1. I don’t mind at all, Daisy! 🙂 We often seem to be on a similar wavelength! 🙂 And I totally agree – the feeling of a brand new year isn’t quite enough to get us through daily life – we need a bit of added purpose and encouragement!

  2. I love the time after the holidays too because it feels like such a fun fresh start. The new year brings so much promise and it’s so fun to look ahead, dream, and set some goals for the year. Great reminders, Hannah! 🙂
