It's still (stillll) winter here in Minnesota, which is crazy! Yes, I've had snow days off from school in April before (and perhaps even May?!) but for some reason, this winter has seemed especially long. I think that's partly due to the fact that I'm not teaching full-time this school year and I'm home with my daughter instead. So, it's been a whole new routine to get used to, and with these quieter days at home, it has felt like this winter is dragging on and on! Sophie was born in October … [Read more...]
Small Town Life Q+A Video
Today's post is totally different from anything I've posted before!! And I'm really excited about it. :) In my reader surveys, there have always been a lot of questions about our small town life and what it's like living in a rural community. While I do mention some things about our life here on the blog, my emphasis hasn't really been on small town life. More recently, I finally realized that many of you were still showing interest in this topic, so I asked you what other questions you had … [Read more...]
The B Family // Mini Session
You saw a photo from this mini session in my September Recap post, but I wanted to share more today! I had the opportunity in September to shoot a mini session alongside Carissa Christine, who did our wedding photos several years ago! Carissa and I have met a few times in the past year to chat about photography - the business side of it, the photo shoots, editing, and more. It has been such a neat experience - I'm so glad I reached out to her! Doing this mini session with Carissa was a … [Read more...]
Soybeans at Sunset (+ a promo code!)
These long summer days here in southern Minnesota are absolutely gorgeous...and the sunsets are equally stunning! Nowhere else have I seen this much golden light at magic hour, with such a beautiful expansive horizon! It's safe to say that the horizons and the light are one of my very favorite things about living here. The other night, on one of the longest days of the year, Bjorn and I hopped in our truck and rumbled down dirt road after dirt road until we got to our own soybean field. … [Read more...]
Capturing the Light – A Wintry Afternoon
Hi friends! Waking up today to windchill temps of -30 degrees (yes, there's a negative in front of that 30...), I feel I can't share anything NOT winter related here on the blog! ;) Yesterday I was bringing some bags in from the car and needed to take a couple trips back and forth from the house (something I usually try to avoid!)...and I nearly froze my hands! I was honestly worried about legitimate frostbite for a couple minutes there! I eventually thawed them out a bit once I … [Read more...]
The S. Family of 5
About a week ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to do another little family session! It was so much fun. You may have seen a while ago, on the blog I photographed the M. family of 4. This time I got to capture the S. family of 5! Fall sessions are such a blast. Here in Minnesota, we are blessed to see jewel-toned leaves and crisper temperatures -- on this particular day, we had a more cloudy, overcast sky, which turned out wonderfully for lighting! I've also learned that babies in … [Read more...]
The M. Family of 4
I recently had the opportunity to photograph a precious family of 4. I spent a sweet evening with them, capturing little moments indoors and outdoors, and they are absolutely adorable. Whenever I photograph people, I feel so honored because I get these glimpses into their lives and interactions. It's a special season for the M. family as they adjust to life as a family of 4! The little girl, E, is the cutest cheerful thinker, and almost-8-week-old baby A was equal parts handsome and snuggly! … [Read more...]
The Iris Garden at the MN Landscape Arboretum
If you read this post, you know that I love the MN Landscape Arboretum!! I learned how to drive there on their 3-mile-drive. I grew up having picnics there. I took my nanny kids to play there. Bjorn and I got our engagement photos taken there. And we even held our wedding reception at the Arboretum! It's a gorgeous place and I really enjoyed sharing snapshots of their Rose Garden recently. I think raindrops on roses ARE one of my favorite things! ;) On that outing, we also visited the Iris … [Read more...]
