Spa days are something beloved to many people, but they can be quite expensive! Shortly before I got married, I got my hair cut and highlighted, and the day before our wedding I got a massage, a manicure, and a pedicure. It was quite the experience – and price point – to get all of those things taken care of in so short a time span!
** Just so you know, I really don’t do things like that at all! More on that later — but I just wanted to say that these treatments were special since Bjorn and I were getting married!
But back to the concept of a spa day: It can really add up. And not many of us have an entire afternoon or day on a regular basis we can dedicate to pampering. Plus, I don’t think it’s wise for my budget to be constantly making these appointments? I’ve never been into having an entire “spa day” but I have learned some neat ways to have an at-home spa day! I’m excited to share these with you today, PLUS there’s a great giveaway at the bottom of this post!
How to Have a Simple At-Home Spa Day:
One of my favorite little aspects of self-care (and totally doable, because you can break it up into little chunks or do it all at once) is having a spa day at home.
I don’t go to any spa for regular treatments (I MAYBE get my nails done once a year, and I only get my hair colored like twice a year!), so any “spa” sort of self-care ends up being something I do at home. When I was first introduced to Rodan + Fields’ skincare products, it finally hit me: NOW, here are products that make every day feel like a spa day at home!!
To infuse elements of a spa day into your daily life makes even the most typical, dreary day feel a bit more special.
Elements of a Spa Day:
- You’ll want something that exfoliates. Part of feeling refreshed is the fact that you’re getting rid of the old and renewing your skin!
- Something fun because of its color or statement. For me, this is nail polish. I love doing my nails even at home. I often do my own French manicure, too!
- A moisturizer of some sort! After exfoliating, it’s important to make sure your skin gets rehydrated.
- Face masks! And you don’t always have to go the peel-off route. More on that later. 🙂
- Fun drinks or snacks! It’s always nice to have a treat to enjoy, making the day feel extra special.
Exfoliating With Microdermabrasion Paste:
In terms of exfoliating, I’ve never liked things that have totally stung my skin. Personally, I’m not going for pain on a spa day. That seems counterproductive to me 🙂 So, I like to use my Microdermabrasion Paste, either in or out of the shower! It smells amazing and can be used on anything – from heels to elbows to anywhere else that needs to be freshly exfoliated.
Whenever I do my nails, I find I just plain love taking my time! Of course, it’s fun to have a new look, but I also just like the ritual of painstakingly painting them. 🙂 Is anyone else like me this way? Sometimes I even pop a show up on Netflix as I paint my nails. I’ve found that OPI Nail Polish stays on longest for me, and goes on the nicest. Granted, it’s a bit pricier than most other brands you can find at a drugstore, but for me, it’s worth it because of its quality. I keep it for years!
Rehydrating With a Moisturizer:
The body moisturizer that Rodan + Fields makes is just AWESOME for winter (or anytime) skin! It’s part of the Essentials collection and certainly lives up to the collection’s name. This Daily Body Moisturizer is phenomenal — I’ve even gifted it to my mom recently because I love it so much!
A Face Mask:
Regarding face masks: Like I said earlier, you DON’T always have to go the peel-off route. In all honesty, I’ve never been a fan of that type of mask. Sometimes face masks can sting, or make your face extra red or sensitive. That’s not the type of self-care I shoot for on a spa day. For an at-home spa day, we want comfort, and the satisfaction of knowing you’re not potentially harming your skin! That’s why for my face mask, I turn to a product that was actually developed by well-known dermatologists.
I’m a bit obsessed with my Daily Cleansing Mask for several reasons. First of all, it’s gentle. It doesn’t sting or burn, and while it does exfoliate, it doesn’t tear at my skin! Second, it’s part of my Redefine (that is, anti-aging) Skincare Regimen and I love how it works to decrease the appearance of fine lines! (It’s never too early to start working on anti-aging!) Third, I love my Daily Cleansing Mask because it isn’t a peel-off mask! It is a 2-minute mask that dries in a thin layer, but then you simply rinse it off — leaving your skin feeling amazing!
The Daily Cleansing Mask is actually what got me totally hooked on Rodan + Fields products in the first place! This was the first R+F product I ever ordered — and I loved it so much.
I remember the first time I put on my 2-minute Daily Cleansing Mask and gently rinsed it off…I was so overjoyed at how it made my skin feel! It felt luxurious, my skin loved it, and suddenly, face-washing time felt like a girls’ night out. 🙂 It’s probably my favorite thing about my morning/evening routines.
It’s time for a giveaway!!
I haven’t done a giveaway on the blog in a while, so I figured a giveaway as part of this spa day post would be a great time to roll out another one!
I am giving away 2 Mini Eye Creams — these are Rodan + Fields’ Multi-Function Eye Cream, a product that I use daily and absolutely LOVE!!
This eye cream is great for the delicate skin around your eyes. It helps reduce the appearance of both puffiness and dark under eye circles and also brightens the eye area. I’ve always had natural dark circles under my eyes, and now I personally feel I don’t have to wear as much under-eye concealer because I use the eye cream regularly!
This is amazing stuff, and you can enter below to win!! There will be 2 winners, and each winner will get 1 Mini Multi-Function Eye Cream shipped to them — no purchase necessary, of course.
PSST — one of the entry options is to take my Rodan + Fields Skincare Solution Quiz. It’s a great tool to help you see what your skin needs are, and taking the quiz will give you twice the entries for the giveaway!
Those are my personal favorites when it comes to an at-home spa day. What spa day elements do you like to infuse into your routines? Or do you set aside time for a little spa-afternoon?
Best of luck on this giveaway! I will be writing more on self-care soon; it’s an interesting topic and I’m eager to hear your take on it.
