Our first Thanksgiving!
I'm overwhelmed with gratitude recently. Maybe it's been sparked by all the thankful posts floating around blogland recently… :) or maybe it's the fact that the holidays this year mark a whole slew of "firsts" for us as a newly married couple. Either way, I really am feeling a deep sense of joy as I daily realize just how many blessings there are in life - from the little things like how the yellow sunshine glints on early-morning blue snow…to the big things, like having a loving, committed man … [Read more...]

Minnesota’s largest candy store
Today I'm excited to be sharing about one of our very favorite road-trip stops: Minnesota's Largest Candy Store in Jordan, MN! When Bjorn and I find ourselves heading up to the Twin Cities from southern MN, we just have to swing by! (After all, see what their sign says?) :) It's kind of true. Resistance is relatively futile when it comes to such a wide selection of delicious candy! The huge store consists of two very long aisles that customers and other tourists can wander… I just love … [Read more...]
Farmyard wanderings.
Some days, all you need is a 15-minute space of time to wander-to-nowhere outside - time with no conversation and no distractions other than farm cats tangling at your ankles, goats calling from the barn, and pigeons cooing and circling the silo. Some days, you need to stand still and listen to the restless breeze and re-learn how to breathe deep. Some days, all you need is a lonely walk with mud squishing under your boots and a horse's nose nuzzling your palm. Time alone, spent in silence and … [Read more...]
A Love Undone // a review
One of the someday-dreams my husband and I have is to own a house with a library in it - imagine, a room dedicated solely to the storage, display, keeping, and reading of books! It brings such wonderful images to mind - a fireplace crackling in the corner, dark wood bookshelves stacked and stacked with pages, a yellowy lamp, snow falling outside the window…ooh, just writing about it makes me giddy! Now, if you were to come to our little house and see our current book collection, the room and … [Read more...]
Why I want to be a teacher.
Happy Thursday! My sweet blog friend Daisy is taking over today and I couldn't be more excited! Daisy blogs over at Simplicity Relished (SUCH a lovely blog!). Today she's sharing with us why she wants to become a special education teacher in an urban residency program. Keep reading to find out more about Daisy and her passion for teaching - then head over to her blog to read a letter I wrote to my students. :) Usually when I tell people that I'm applying to an urban teacher residency program … [Read more...]
‘Tis the season!
It's such a blessing to live near family. How do I know? Well, sometimes the importance of something is taught through scarcity. I grew up with no extended family in the state - or even in neighboring states, for that matter! It was just the 5 of us in my immediate family and it was what I was used to…until Bjorn came into my life. :) When I first learned that my husband had so many of his relatives in the area, I was blown away. Both sides of his family were nearby! Bjorn grew up in an … [Read more...]
