Remember how my last blog post said, "I'm back!" ?? And how that was two whole months ago? Haha. Oh dear. It has been a busy summer (which is an understatement!). I know that 2020 has been quite the year for people all around the world. Here's a bit of a life update in the Olson home: In January, my husband Bjorn publicly announced he was running for the Minnesota House of Representatives. Our District has a seat that will soon be vacated. There was an endorsing convention (where delegates … [Read more...]
Visiting the Amish Community of Arthur, Illinois
Another stop we made on our road trip out to Kentucky was the town of Arthur, Illinois. We enjoy seeing the Amish when we can, so I had looked up any Amish communities along our route. Arthur, Illinois is the 8th largest Amish community in the world, with about 4,000 Amish living near the town of Arthur (which has a population of about 2,000 people itself). We spent an enjoyable afternoon in Arthur last Saturday! Visiting the Amish Community of Arthur, Illinois Since we weren't familiar … [Read more...]
Visiting a Monastery in Iowa
Hi from Fort Knox, Kentucky! Bjorn has some army training this week, so that's what brought us out here. Sophie and I were actually able to accompany Bjorn, which is such a blessing. Sometimes army training means many days apart, and other times, we get to stay together. This week is one of those fun times when we don't have to be apart! We drove to Kentucky from Minnesota over the weekend. It was Sophie's first road trip, and we didn't know 100% what to expect, but we did know we wanted … [Read more...]
Our Babymoon in the Wisconsin Dells
Well hello again, friends!! I'll admit, it feels like I haven't gotten a blog post up in forever - yikes! Baby prepping tasks, a vacation, and hosting and spending time with family have been wonderful and important, but since I hadn't scheduled posts in advance, they fell by the wayside a bit. At least I managed to get a pregnancy update up yesterday! :) I'm back with more posts, though, and ready to get back into the swing of things! Today I'm excited to share about the little … [Read more...]
Our Weekend Visiting Family in South Dakota
Last weekend, Bjorn and I drove out to South Dakota to visit his cousin Marie and her husband Matt on their farm place! It was such a special weekend, and full of good memories, belly laughs, and some surprisingly warm February days. :) We had been talking for a long time about making a trip out there and finally decided on a weekend in February. I'm so glad we were able to make it work - it was the perfect break from life back home, and quality time spent with relatives is always a … [Read more...]
My Favorite Rural + Nature Shots From Our Time In Belgium
It was fun reminiscing about our great 2016 European adventure last week. (You can find our whole 2-week detailed itinerary HERE.) Since I shared my favorite rural photos from France, I also wanted to share nature shots from Belgium! I. Loved. Belgium. There was just something about it. Of course, the landscape wasn't that different from France's, especially where we were -- with our road-tripping, we were often straddling the line between France and Belgium anyway...but there … [Read more...]
My Favorite Rural + Nature Shots From Our Time In France
Friends, I'm really excited about today's post! I've been reminiscing about our big European adventure lately -- what a whirlwind trip! We loved our time abroad last summer and there are so many parts of it that I don't want to forget! When people think of traveling abroad, or traveling to Europe, they tend to envision the hustle and bustle of crazy big cities. They think of the sheer numbers of people milling about, or the constant noise or excitement that often wraps itself around … [Read more...]
Chateau de Pierrefonds: a French Castle
There has been a bit of an impromptu break from our Europe posts lately, but I'm jumping back in today with one of our favorite excursions towards the end of the trip...visiting a castle!! RELATED: OUR 2 WEEK EUROPE TRIP ITINERARY We left the charming town of Albert in the early morning and drove south for an hour towards the area around Compiegne, France (not all that far from Paris, where we would later be flying home from). I had first come across Chateau de Pierrefonds while … [Read more...]
