7 Simple Ways to Bring More Hygge Into Your Home
Have you heard about the concept of hygge yet? When I first learned of it, I remember turning to my husband and saying, That's it! THAT'S the word for what I love so much! I felt like I finally had come across the exact way to describe what I strive for in my mentality and my home. It was refreshing and comforting to finally have a term for it! In case you're new to the idea of hygge (pronounced more like hue-gah or sometimes hoo-gah), it's a Danish/Scandinavian term that means a sense of … [Read more...]
My 2019 Goals & Aspirations
Now that the new year is in full swing, I'm finally sharing the goals I've got for 2019! These have been bouncing around in my mind for a while now (probably ever since December), and it's time to get them recorded! Last week, I heard that only 8% of people with New Year's resolutions will carry them through till the next year. Yikes! I want to keep them, and I want this year to be focused on general wellness and ways I can be honoring God and taking good care of myself. While I understand … [Read more...]
That Time I Remembered Why I Blog
We're visiting my parents for part of the holidays this year. This morning, while Sophie was resting, I snuck off to Target and Starbucks for a couple errands. (I love this, because at home we live over an hour away from both a Target and Starbucks...so this feels downright luxurious!) I had a bit more time without Sophie along for the ride, and I found myself wandering the baby aisles anyway, staring at darling little newborn socks and cute sleeper sets. I glanced over and a woman near me was … [Read more...]
A New Kind of Golden Hour
If you've been following my blog for a while, then you might remember all of the sunset photos I would post when I first moved here to rural, small-town Minnesota. This was over five years ago! I was in awe of the endless horizon, the sea of fields around me in every direction, the expanse of the sky above me. It honestly blew me away. I've always been quick to turn to thoughts of worship when it comes to natural beauty around me. It's just an inclination that many of us have. We look at the … [Read more...]
How I’m Rewriting My Inner Narrative
I've been thinking about this topic a lot lately! I've always loved psychology, and I love learning more about how the mind works. One of the things I've learned over the years is just how much our thought patterns can affect us...and others! You've probably heard the term "personal narrative" before. In school and in English class, it meant a story told in first person, talking about a person's feelings and experiences from their perspective. Essentially, it puts you in the main character's … [Read more...]
Announcing: Just Bee’s 30-Day Slower Living Challenge!
Earlier this month, I shared about my journey to slower living. I've been able to incorporate that mentality into my life even more these past 5 years of living in small-town Minnesota! Like I said in my previous blog post, it's been quite the adventure to get here, but I eventually settled into this lifestyle. Slower living, to me, means having a “take a deeper breath” approach to life – soaking up the small joys, relishing routines and meaningful tasks, and focusing on relationships. And … [Read more...]
My Journey to Slower Living
Five years ago (almost to the day!), I moved from a busy, suburban town in the Twin Cities area to a sleepy, tiny town in rural Minnesota. My reality changed drastically. It was both difficult and wonderful, and I sure have learned a lot over these past five years! Here's how the journey began: Immediately after graduation, I accepted a teaching position in my then-fiance's hometown school district. (We planned on staying in the area after marrying, since family farmland is hard to pick … [Read more...]
